TSRA-PAC Primary Voters' Guide Available Now

The 2026 Primary Elections are Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Many of these races are expected to go into a runoff election, and those that do will take place on May 26, 2026. The TSRA Political Action Committee has finished the review of the Second Amendment history of each candidate and prepared the 2026 TSRA Voter Guide for the primaries.
This guide indicates that a candidate questionnaire has been received and reviewed by the TSRA PAC team. Together with a review of the voting history of the candidates, the Guide awards a letter grade to each candidate.
What the Grades Mean:
A+ Outstanding pro-Second Amendment record with active leadership defending gun rights.
A Consistently pro-Second Amendment, with a strong voting record or clear public support for gun owners’ rights.
AQ Pro-Second Amendment based solely on TSRA-PAC Questionnaire responses; no legislative voting record yet.
B Generally pro-Second Amendment, but with some past opposition to pro-gun reforms or support for limited restrictions.
C A mixed or inconsistent record on Second Amendment issues. A “C” rating is not a passing grade.
D Supports restrictive gun control and opposes pro–Second Amendment legislation, regardless of public statements.
F A consistent and active opponent of gun owners’ rights who regularly supports or leads anti-gun efforts.
? Did not complete the TSRA-PAC Questionnaire or has conflicting statements or records on Second Amendment issues.
Endorsed Candidates:
Many of the candidates supported by TSRA PAC in the primaries are familiar faces. Governor Greg Abbott has signed multiple 2A bills into law during his governorship, and we are happy to support him again in this campaign. Similarly, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has the support of TSRA PAC, as he has been shown to be a 2A leader.
Last summer, TSRA PAC Legislative Director John Poole visited the Capitol on several occasions to testify and support pro-2A legislation during the 2025 Texas Legislative Session. At the conclusion of the session, Poole presented several Texas legislators with TSRA PAC awards for their efforts. We are supporting many of the same legislators as they run for election or re-election now.
Senator Bob Hall went after the misguided Texas State Fair gun ban in the 2025 legislation and sponsored/passed legislation that ended taxpayer-funded gun buybacks. Senator Hall is running as the incumbent for Senate District 2.
Representative Cody Harris is the incumbent running for House District 8 with TSRA PAC’s support. Representative Harris authored and passed HB 1403 during the 2025 session, which prevents the state from developing and maintaining a registry of firearms owned by foster parents.
Representative Cole Hefner served in the 2025 session as Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Public Safety, and Veterans’ Affairs. He sponsored Texas’s new anti-red flag law during the same session. Representative Hefner has our support as the incumbent running for House District 5.
Senator Charles Schwertner is the incumbent running for Senate District 5. He authored and passed SB 706 in the 2025 session, requiring Texas to recognize all valid out-of-state carry licenses.
