TSRA PAC Returns to Capitol to Present Awards

The TSRA PAC Legislative Team returned to the Texas Capitol to present more TSRA Freedom Fighter Awards to Texas legislators. These lawmakers and their dedicated staff members went the extra mile this session, keeping Texas at the forefront of advancing important pro-gun legislation.

Rep. Cody Harris
Rep. Harris authored and passed HB 1403 during the 2025 Regular Session, legislation preventing the state from developing and maintaining a registry of firearms owned by foster parents. "As a foster parent himself, Representative Harris was committed to passing this legislation to encourage more Texas families to consider fostering," said TSRA Executive Director and acting Legislative Director John Poole. "The Second Amendment rights of foster parents are as important to protect as those of all other Texas families, and we thank him for his dedication to this important issue."

Rep. Cole Hefner
Rep. Cole Hefner played a key role during the 2025 Regular Session as Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Public Safety, and Veterans’ Affairs and as sponsor of SB 1362, Texas’ new anti-red flag law. “Representative Hefner has a longstanding record of leadership on Second Amendment issues in the Texas House, and this session he continued to demonstrate his dedication to and effectiveness in protecting our gun rights,” said Poole.

Sen. Bryan Hughes
Sen. Bryan Hughes was presented this award for his key role in the 2025 Regular Session as Chairman of the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee and author of SB 1362, Texas' new anti-red flag law. "Senator Hughes has an outstanding record of leadership on Second Amendment issues in the Texas Senate," said Poole. "We thank him for fighting to protect our gun rights and pushing back against dangerous red flag laws that trample on our civil liberties."

Sen. Mayes Middleton
Sen. Mayes Middleton sponsored and passed HB 1403 during the 2025 Regular Session, legislation preventing the state from developing and maintaining a registry of firearms owned by foster parents. "We appreciate Senator Middleton's hard work to remove an unnecessary and intrusive barrier for some families who are considering becoming foster parents," said Poole. "His efforts will protect the Second Amendment rights of foster parents and keep Texas foster families safe."

Sen. Charles Schwertner
Sen. Schwertner authored and passed SB 706, legislation requiring Texas to recognize all valid out of state gun carry licenses during the 2025 Regular Session. “Senator Schwertner has an outstanding record of leadership on Second Amendment issues in the Texas Senate, and we appreciate his continued work this session to protect our fundamental right to self-defense across state lines,” said Poole.

Rep. Wes Virdell
HB 3053 was sponsored and passed by Rep. Wes Virdell during the 2025 Regular Session, ending taxpayer-funded gun buybacks. “As a staunch pro-Second Amendment advocate himself, Representative Wes Virdell is a critical voice for our rights in the Texas House, and we appreciate his work to preserve tax dollars from being used by local governments to collect and destroy firearms,” said Poole.
