TSRA Testimony in Senate State Affairs Committee

On Monday, March 3, the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee reported out Texas Senate Bill 706 by TSRA A+ rated Sen. Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown). Nine members of the committee voted YES to advance SB 706 to the full Senate for consideration; one member was shown as "Present Not Voting."

TSRA Executive Director John Poole testified before the committee last week in support of this TSRA-backed bill requiring Texas to universally recognize all valid out-of-state carry licenses. Texas should join the 20 other states with universal recognition laws, modernize our reciprocity law to be consistent with the permitless carry statute that applies to nonresidents, and lend support to efforts to pass National Right to Carry Reciprocity.

TSRA held its 2025 Annual General Meeting at Cabela's in Buda this past weekend, where our legislative team gave an in-depth report on the status of firearm-related bills this legislative session. They reported that House committees will start meeting in earnest next week, and the deadline for introduction of bills is just around the corner on March 14.

Last week we reported to you on a number of pro-Second Amendment bills which have both House and Senate versions introduced this session. Add to that list these recently-filed measures which would make NRA's Annual Meetings and Exhibits eligible for funding under Texas' Major Events Reimbursement Program: House Bill 2385 by Rep. Ryan Guillen (R-Rio Grande City) and Senate Bill 1718 by Sen. Kevin Sparks (R-Midland).  As NRA's official state affiliate, TSRA strongly benefits from the exposure that comes with having the national organization's annual meeting here in Texas as frequently as possible. This legislation will encourage its return to the Lone Star State and bring with it the economic benefits that such a large gathering generates.

Stay tuned for important information on bills of interest to gun owners and sportsmen in the coming weeks and months from TSRA-PAC!
