Second Amendment Task Force Created at DOJ

Under the guidance of Attorney General Pamela Bondi, the Department of Justice has created a Second Amendment Task Force.

This creation came after the Department of Justice and the ATF’s repeal of the Enhanced Regulatory Enforcement Policy and the review of Final Rule (stabilizing braces), and Final Rule 2022-R-17F (“engaging in the business”) on Monday.

In a memo, Attorney General Bondi referenced the importance of Second Amendment rights to the current Administration. She cited the Executive Order issued by President Trump on February 7, 2025, calling for the review.

“As one element of a comprehensive plan of action that I am proposing to the President, I am hereby creating a Second Amendment Enforcement Task Force. This task force will continue the Department’s ongoing work to implement Executive Order 14206 and protect the fundamental right secured by the Second Amendment,” Attorney General Bondi wrote in the memo. “The Task Force is principally charged with developing and executing strategies to use litigation and policy to advance, protect, and promote compliance with the Second Amendment.”

The memo identified that Attorney General Bondi will be the Chair of the Task Force. She will be joined by the  Associate Attorney General as the Vice Chair. Additional members not yet named will be a part of the Task Force, including the Criminal Division, the ATF, and the FBI.

Here at TSRA, we have a task force that is dedicated to advancing, protecting, and promoting compliance with the Second Amendment too. Our TSRA PAC Legislative Team works around the clock to ensure that policies, bills, resolutions, amendments, and any other legislative work that involves firearms and the Second Amendment are compliant with the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

Next week, our team will spend several days at the Capitol building in Austin for “gun week.” There will be seventeen firearm-related bills heard on Monday in the Texas House. As you may know, these hearings are not a 9-5 process. The Committee Hearings will begin at 9 but will continue until all scheduled bills have been heard. TSRA Executive Director and Acting Legislative Director, John Poole, will be there with our dedicated lobbyists to testify on several bills.

We value our TSRA Members and those who have contributed to our organization throughout your dedicated years of membership. But if you have not considered a contribution to our PAC, we urge you to do so today. To see more about what our Legislative Team is doing, please visit TSRAPAC.com.
