TCC Proposed Change Would Directly Violate Texas Laws
The Tarrant County College Board of Trustees has plans to propose a policy change. Like the policy change done at the State Fair of Texas, this amendment is bad news. It would directly infringe upon the rights of licensed Texans.
Currently, the policy does not include possession. “The College District prohibits the use or display of a firearm on College District property or at a College District-sponsored or – related activity in violation of law and College District regulations.” The proposed policy amends this section by adding “possession.”
"This update will add "possession" to align policy to the TASB Model Policy," the amendment reads.
Tarrant County College is a 2-year college. It falls under the State Campus Carry law and the Campus Parking Lot law. These laws involve LTC holders and campuses. The State Campus Carry Law allows licensed concealed carry on campus. The Campus Parking Lot Law allows LTC holders firearm possession in locked, private vehicles. This law covers any firearm and not just handguns. The vehicles can be parked or driven on a campus. The policy, if amended, would directly violate these laws. See Sec 411.2031 and Sec 411.2032 of the Texas Government Code for more information.
TSRA Members are encouraged to contact the Trustees to tell them not to violate state law. The most impactful calls will be those from our Tarrant County members.
