BlackJack Challenge

TSRA Highpower Director, Erik Cortina (Cortina Precision), has been running a BlackJack Challenge throughout the year.

The challenge is 6 targets, 500 yards, and 12 shots over two minutes. It is a hit-to-move challenge.

“What that means, is hit, hit, hit, hit, miss…assuming you have time and ammo left over, you can continue shooting at that target until you hit it,” explained Cortina during one of the Challenges.

The 6 targets are 12”, 10”, 8”, 6”, 4”, and 2”. If you get all the way across, it’s BlackJack (21 points). However, 21 is not the highest score you can get. Once you have made it across, you can continue to shoot the smallest target. Each additional hit on the smallest target will earn another 21 points. But that’s not all. “There is a twist,” said Cortina. “You can shoot this rack in reverse order for twice the points.”

The leaderboard is on the Cortina Precision website with the top 10 in bold. Fellow YouTuber, Dillon (Great Value Varget) competed with a customized .25 Creedmoor. At the time of writing, Dillon’s points and time placed him in the top ten.

The BlackJack Challenge is open to any experience for the shooters as well. “This is the first time I’ve ever shot anything that far,” explained Brandon Mitchan, who used a 6mm Creedmoor for the Challenge. Mitchan’s run earned him a “Holy Crap!” from Cortina when he had finished. Did he run it clean or miss them all? Find out in the video!

In the event of a tie, the shooter with the fastest time will win. Another method to keep things fair is the use of randomization to select who goes first. Drawings are done to determine the shooter order.

There is an additional challenge offered by Cortina Precision for the BlackJack Challenge, too. If someone manages to do it with Open Sights, they get $5,000. “Come and take it,” said Cortina. “Take my money!”
