Air Rifle – Sporter
Three-Position Air Rifle Shooting is the fastest growing shooting sport competition for youth of high school age or younger. Two different Three-Position Air Rifle events exist. Precision Air Rifle is modeled after Olympic-style shooting and allows the use of specialized target rifles and equipment. It can be shot either all standing on 3-position just like smallbore. Sporter Air Rifle is simpler in design and great for new competitors or those who desire to compete with a minimum of equipment and expense. Sporter air rifles are commonly referred to as ‘off the shelf” rifles. All shoot a .177 caliber pellet and use air to propel the shot. Since gunpowder is not used it is very easy to set up an indoor range.
Competitors fire at targets at a distance of 10 meters in three different positions, prone, standing and kneeling.
